The Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation, Located in 24255 E Pacific Coast Hwy, Malibu, CA 90263, USA. Collection of modern and contemporary art is presented in a “living with art—house museum” setting, with guided public tours available by appointment with the foundation.
The Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation presents a unique chance for art lovers to interact with a sizable collection of historical works of art. The American businessman and philanthropist Frederick Rand Weisman’s private art collection is housed and displayed on this sizable residential estate. Five days a week, a variety of visitors may take advantage of docent-led tours to learn more about the 4000-plus works of art on show at the estate. In this estate, artworks reside in every crevasse: modernist paintings garnish walls, pop artifacts perch atop counters, and full size realistic sculptures are discovered in beds and showers. The Foundation offers guests a pleasant, welcoming, and intimate setting in which to examine significant pieces of art by well-known artists.
The Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation is a private art foundation located in Beverly Hills, California. The foundation was established in 1982 by Frederick R. Weisman, a prominent American businessman and philanthropist. Weisman made the decision to convert his own estate into a private museum in 1986. In 1991, he created an addition, or “art pavilion,” designed by architect Franklin D. Israel, near the estate’s northern end to show larger pieces. Weisman always delighted in showing his collection to visitors. Nothing makes 81-year-old Frederick R. Weisman more than showing guests through the extraordinary collection of contemporary art that occupies his Holmby Hills estate, according to a 1993 New York Times article. He brings them upstairs to a restroom where they are surprised to see a naked couple in an embrace—in reality, a lifelike Duane Hanson sculpture.
Since Weisman’s passing in 1994, the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation has further his cultural goals and has allowed visitors to the estate and art pavilion only by appointment. Visiting the house and taking in a tiny selection of the vast and quite personal collection.
The Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation is a must-visit for any art lover visiting Beverly Hills—or even Los Angeles for that matter. With its impressive collection of modern art and rotating temporary exhibitions, there’s always something new to see at the foundation. Best of all, admission is free!
